
Mark G. Pomar is President/CEO of The US Russia Foundation for Economic Advancement and the Rule of Law.
From 2000 to 2008, Mark Pomar was President of the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX), one of the premier American not-for-profit organizations that administer education and training programs worldwide. Prior to IREX, Pomar served as Executive Director of the Board for International Broadcasting, Director of the Russian Service of the Voice of America, and Assistant/Associate Professor of Russian Studies at the University of Vermont.
Mark Pomar was born in New York and grew up in Burlington, Vermont. He received his B.A. degree (Summa cum laude) from Tufts University in Russian Studies (1972) and his Ph.D. in Russian Literature and History in 1978 from Columbia University. Pomar was an IREX/Fulbright scholar in Leningrad in 1981. He has written a monograph on the Russian jurist and man of letters, Anatoly Koni (1844 - 1927) and published articles on Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Pushkin, and early Russian drama and theater.
